Urgent Problem: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionWrite (send()).] General network error. Check you network documentation

Hello !

We have an urgent problem we are unable to resolve since weeks.

Environment:
HP DL585, 4x4 AMD Opteron (Instanbul)
Windows 2003 SP2 Enterprise 32-bit
SQL Server 2008 SP1 Enterprise 32-bit

OLEDB/MDAC 2.8with no connection pooling

Our server application resides on the
SQL Server machine itself. Protocol used is TCPIP (Shared Mem not an option currently due to security policies). Same application works flawlessly on a different machine of same type (but with different NIC) under Win2003 EE/SQL Server 2000 EE both 32-bit.

Part of the server application is a database loader which generates heavy load on the database using 18 threads to update the database residing on the underlying SAN.

The Problem is, that we are getting random disconnects - mostly but not explicitly under heavy load - with this error message:

[DBNETLIB][ConnectionWrite (send()).] General network error. Check you network documentation

The connection drops seem truely random and not following any certain pattern. Several connections (across several applications) get dropped at once.

We have searched the guides/manuals/web and tried the following steps that were mostly suggested for this kind of problem:

SynAttackProtect :
SynAttackProtect = 0

TCP Chimney:
EnableTCPChimney = 0
EnableRSS = 0
EnableTCPA = 0

TCP Offloading:
DisableTaskOffload=1

in the appropriate registry section, but with no success. We also made sure TCP offloading is completely turned off in the HP network card driver itself.

We really
have no more idea how to solve this issue.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards
Martin
